My Work and Skills

A look at this year's work.

Branding

I did a rebrand of Diamond K. Leather Co. last summer. I started by doing an analysis of its current brand identity and target audience to develop a more effective approach. This is a small-town leather working business owned and operated by one man. His values are hard work, integrity and quality. I wanted to portray this in his brand identity as well as highlight trust and authenticity. You can read more in-depth information about that process and what I learned in the Diamond K. Leather Co. Series on my website. For the new brand I designed a logo, business card, letterhead, envelope and several social media posts and content. See below.

Branding - Capstone, The Campaign for Everyone

For my capstone project at OU, our team worked with Scissortail Park to create a campaign that would generate awareness for the Scissortail Foundation and the park, upholding the brand’s mission that the park is a safe place for everyone, and instilling an interest in and a love for the park and this organization in future generations.

Style Guide

First off, I created a graphic identity for my capstone PR company. We are called Bright Light PR and were tasked with creating a brand identity. I was elected as the creative director and designed the following for our organization.

Our final project was the completion and presentation of our campaign for Scissortail Park, The Campaign for Everyone. Complete with client background, primary and secondary research, positioning statements, goals and objectives, target audience research, interviews, surveys, competitor research, social media management, timelines, budgets, campaign objectives, and so much more.

Situational Analysis Research Report

Throughout the semester, our team worked vigorously to address the issue of communication between the City of Norman and the citizens of Norman. We analyzed the knowledge of consumers as well as current communication trends in order to determine the most effective use of resources for the city. This report includes all of the research, findings, and suggestions we have accumulated in order to best address this situation.

Graphic Design

OU Recruitment Services

I designed two handouts for the University of Oklahoma's Recruitment Services Office. Before designing, I considered the stakeholders and decided I wanted to design for a more specific group than just incoming students. My first handout was geared towards incoming or potential transfer students and the second is for the parents of transfer students. A closer look at my process through these designs can be found on the OU Recruitment Service Series page. You can also look at my blog post, Reflecting on Handouts.

Trifold Highlighting Production Capabilities

This project is one from my current job at Tinker Air Force Base. I was tasked with creating a trifold to market our production capabilities to other stakeholders in the industry as part of a workload activation campaign. This highlights each area of our Production Maintenance Group and all of the services we offer to customers, in both government and private industries.

Boeing Newsletter

One of my final projects for the semester was to design a Newsletter for a Fortune 500 company. I chose Boeing, a global aerospace manufacturing company. I collected articles from their website and organized them into a clean newsletter. I stared my process by doing some research on the company and sketching a layout. Read more about that in my blog post, Designing for Newsletters. Completing the newsletter took me a long time, but I am happy with how it turned out. I outlined my designing process as well as my reflection in my post, Doing Newsletters Right.

Crisis Communication

One of the most important aspects of PR (in my opinion) is handling crisis. I have been learning bits and pieces of how to overcome these situations throughout my time at the University of Oklahoma. Last semester, I was finally able to take a course all about crisis communication and do a deep dive into all types of crises and responses. Throughout the semester, my team and I developed a full Crisis Communicaiton Plan for the University of Phoenix. We researched the university, analyzed likely crises, studied similar cases, developed plans for the crises and implemented specific directions for how to handle each.
